DECEIVING THE EYE - THE ART OF TROMPE L'OEIL
The Art of Deception...When it comes to fooling the eye into seeing what is not really there, the aptly-named art of "Trompe l'Oeil" has misled and confused us for ages! Tracing its roots as far back as antiquity, when ancient painter, Zeuxis, painted grapes so realistically that they attracted hungry birds, this form of true-to-life painting never ceased to trigger admiration. The mastering of technique, perspective and structure requires tremendous skill, and artistry.
So, throughout the centuries Trompe l'Oeil has, and continues, to be an important artistic form. There are so many extraordinary ways to mislead our perception...
