Part(y)ing with 2014...what to wear ?

PART(Y)ING WITH 2014...

WHAT TO WEAR?

Here we are again, on the threshold of a new year, eager to put behind us the now obsolete resolutions of 2014 and ready as we ever will be, to make up a fresh new batch for 2015.  Now whether we'll stick to those...we'll have until December 31st 2015 to find out...but till then..."Hope springs eternal..." and that's just fine !

Aside from the 'in-depth' analysis we put ourselves through trying to find smart answers to this irritating question "and what are YOUR New Year's resolutions?", there is a bigger, more challenging issue here. What to wear when the time comes to call it quits with the current year?

It may sound trivial, but I feel a little superstitious about the whole concept...wanting to look my best when the New Year chimes in. You know what they say about first impressions...you never know what this New Year may think... so, why not make it perfect when you kiss 2014 goodbye and kick off 2015 in style!

Here are a few ideas I'd like to share with you. After all, you may love the safe bet of a LBD (but long or short..?) or you may be looking for shine and sparkle this year. No matter your age or your style maybe you'll be inspired..all in good fun...

Let's start with the LBD (Little Black Dress bien sûr); still an absolutely favourite of mine. There are so many different styles, that if it is the LBD you've set your mind on, you know you'll find your perfect match.

For starters...do you prefer long or short?

Little Black Dress Exhibit - Paris - 2013 - Mona Bismarck American Center

In tulle, ballerina style or more classical; in gorgeous lace?

Keira Knightley

Valentino Haute Couture

If your option is a long dress or skirt, in black or any other colour, you may want to throw something special on your shoulders...

A classical fur stole on a sexy vamp black gown...for that 'Femme Fatale' in you...

or...

Rockin' it like Jessica Alba, with a black leather motorcycle jacket

How about...

Giselle topping her Jeff Garner gown with a smoking jacket - modern classic

Perhaps you are a pants and jacket girl, (I know I am) in this case these two options are for you...

The fabulous, one and only, iconic, YSL Smoking, shot here by Helmut Newton in 1975. Timeless...

A lamé suit by Paul and Joe

There is always silver...

For the goddess - in shining armor - by Ralph Lauren

Or the Rock n' Roll Babe - like Natasha Poly - for Vogue Spain

You're a Golden Girl...your wish is my command...you even get three...

"The Gold of New Year past"... Divine Dovima - 1955 -

"The Gold of New Year Present" - Elisabeth Erm for Vogue China

"The Gold of New Year Future" -  Fearless and Fun, the future is now...

But you may be the nostalgic type...Great Gatsby perhaps...

Karlie Kloss wears the flapper dress for Vogue

And Kate Moss, a sequined, hip version for Topshop

Sequins, Stones and Sparkles...you like?

Ashley Olsen in Dolce and Gabbana (ok it's from Spring 2012, but it still works for me...)

Or a shiny, embroidered 'Boho Glam' piece by Missoni

If you like that bohemian, gypset vibe and love embroideries...whatever your age...go for it...

Actress Ellen Burstyn looking fabulous at the 2013 Emmy Awards where she won the 'Best Supporting Actress Award' for her role in the miniseries "Political Animals".

John Galliano for Christian Dior - 'open back' dress - spring/summer 1998 -  What a Showstopper and what a way to turn your back on 2014!

Are you the gal who can't wear anything but denim ? Well that can work for New Years Eve too...you'll just have to accessorize a little here and there...

Favourite Denim Jacket?  Throw it over a sequined little something...like Giselle over Chanel (Haute Couture quand même and...Giselle quand même...)

Or your good ol' dungarees with a little festive jacket and a mega feminine blouse. Here it's Balmain, but you get the idea right...?

Accessories can really make (or break) an outfit...here are some styles to go with my selection, or yours???

In Black:-

(from top left, clockwise...Oscar de la Renta, Charlotte Olympia, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo).

With sparkling crystals:-

(from top left, clockwise...Miu Miu, Jimmy Choo, Roger Vivier, Giorgio Armani).

And for stepping out in gold:-

(from top left, clockwise...boots by Repetto, jeweled pumps by Dolce and Gabbana, golden straps and lace by Oscar de la Renta and silver and gold crystal embellished by Nicholas Kirkwood).

And if 'Shoes', then 'Bags'....(or clutches, pouches, even reticules...)

Alexander Mq Queen - yes please...(I'm willing to pick one blindfolded!)

Chanel - from the gorgeous 2011 'Paris - Byzance' Collection

Simply chic - Bottega Veneta's silk stretch, knot clutch
Lovely and feminine - Lady Dior - in embroidered satin

How about showing off a unique, vintage treasure? This one, a wonderful silk and metal 1800 - 1810 'Reticule' bag, from the Collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC. (For your inspiration only...)

But perhaps, maybe just perhaps...New Years Eve is the one night you REALLY want to stay in, with your chosen Loved One(s). No interferences. You'll welcome the New Year on your own terms and by your own clock ( you probably NEVER make resolutions anyway... ) So, the best way to stay in for you is....the only way...

 Staying warm and comfortable...

Giggling and Snuggling...

Just like Doris Day and Rock Hudson on set of "Pillow Talk" - 1956 -

And when the time is right, popping open that Champagne...

And whispering those 3 little words.....

So, to everyone I wish the most beautiful, successful, exciting 2015.  May it make all your dreams come true and may you (finally...) stick to your New Year Resolutions ( or not...)

I know I won't.

A très vite...en 2015...
